My Savant Experience...Could I Be?

*The following post has breaks in the format. I apologize as this is not how it reads when I try to edit it. I am new to this site and I haven't figured out the editing and format features I should be using. Please know that I know it's wrong!
It's taken me nearly 52 years to sort through some things about myself that have been a mystery to me. At age four I suddenly could play the piano. My Mom had painted a picture of me at age two
reaching up over my head and fondling the keys of our family piano. I imagine that I have been
infatuated with the piano from the time I could stand.
One of my earliest childhood memories was a look of almost terror on my Mom's face. I began
playing a song that my twelve year old sister had been practicing on the piano. I was four. My mother came into the room to compliment my sister on the piece and she found four year old me at the keys
instead. It scared Mom to death and me too. I thought something was wrong with me! This ability
wasn't limited to the piano. I found out in 6th grade that I could also play the oboe, flute and saxaphone quite well. I still play my flute now and again but I no longer own a sax. My Mom thought  it funny looking for a girl to play sax lol. I bet I could still play one. I also have been known to be
able to play bass guitar and pick out a melody line on a guitar.

I have been playing by ear all my life. I tried many times to learn how to read music to no avail. I
either couldn't get my brain to work that way or I didn't have the patience to learn. Some songs that I
have learned are very easy for me and others, I have to pick apart and learn. I can't play just any song.
The songs that I play, just kind of come to me. Thats why I say that my cover songs find me.Recently, I decided to try to write a song just to see if I could. Something that I haven't heard
before that is completely from my own creation rather than something I have heard. I was surprised to find that I could! I constructed chords, a vocal melody line, and even set lyrics to the composition/ arrangement. I even toyed with the melody line inserting a violin accompaniment that I wrote and
recorded for my YouTube channel .http://youtu.be/nAVkKmaAVF0. The violin is actually a voice that my piano can make. So I created that passage from a setting on my keyboard. I tried to play it as if I
were playing the violin. I actually felt as if I had played the violin. Hence my OMG expression at the
end of my clip lol.

Later, I wrote and set lyrics in place of the violin. This was a magical experience to find out that whatever this is that I have, isn't limited to what I have heard. I actually
can write my own originals. This isn't a great song. I had it looked at by random people and it's not
compelling I've  been told. In fact, it may even suck lol. Oh well, it's mine all mine and it holds deep meaning to me on so many levels It was almost a spiritual experience as it was unfolding beneath my
fingers. This means, I'm not limited in ability to what I hear! I can create!

I look forward to my next song. Whatever that may be. I'm really hoping to get away from trying to
do covers. Copyright laws are very strange. Some artists/ most artists allow covers of their songs.  One artist in particular that I cover has a media company that trolls the internet and YouTube. This
particular artists social media mafia take down videos that even have his own recorded music in
them! Vacation videos with his own recording in the background! Long story short, my cover of a song this artist wrote got me a copy-write strike against my YouTube account. Thinking the problem was I didn't site it properly, I revised it and posted it again. Bam, another take down and copy-write srtike! YouTube has a three strikes your channel is done policy. To add insult to injury, this was the very first  video I ever posted on YouTube lol! I was crushed

I actually ended up writing to this artists management company to ask permission to cover this song to put on my YouTube channel. I inserted a small video clip of me playing his song. I explained that I was a housewife playing from a spare room.  I am not making any money from this and that my only purpose for doing so is out of the enjoyment and adoration for his brilliant composition! I never heard
back from his management company. Other cover videos of the same song/artist are available for view on YouTube, why was mine not allowed? I also asked this, no reply back. After all what did I
expect, I'm only a 52 year old housewife. Why should they bother acknowledging my efforts?!
Anyway, I think I'll keep myself out of trouble and try to write my own songs to do lol... I have a pet name for my keyboard called, "The Keys To My Happiness". It's deep within my soul to play...I imagine as long as I am physically able to do so, I will!

A Big Pot Of Chili For New Year's, A Sweet And Spicy Way To Start The Year

It's New Year's Day. I have been in my kitchen cooking today. I made a lot of food! I baked some homemade cornbread this am.

And my favorite chili recipe to go with lol.

This chili can simmer for a long time, incorporating  all the flavors ...A sweet and spicy recipe. Great for game days!

These meatballs are so tasty you wouldn't believe!

An easy recipe using jellied canned cranberry and a bottle of chili sauce...

This is my cream cheese and craisin cheeseball rolled in chopped pecans.
I even made a baked brie with cranberry sauce wrapped in phyllo.

The best part of making all of this food is that I'm finished cooking for a few days! I made enough food for us that I can just enjoy the rest of this holiday! I am also ready for any visitors who might drop by.
Of course I made dessert too. Carrot Cake with Cool Whip/ Cream Cheese frosting.

New Hair And Big Dreams

It's amazing what a haircut can do! Good way to ring in the New Year. Start off fresh and new. It helps when you find a great hair designer, a master with scissors and a blow dryer. I met one such individual. Our friend Jimmy of PhoVan introduced me to Hieu Le. A young vietnamese guy that cuts hair in a salon called Hung's Hair Design in the Mekong Center off of Dobson Rd., here in the valley of the sun. He was an absolute master with scissors. His scissors were flying through my thick mop of hair.  He really worked my hair into shape. When he got done my hair wasn't even recognizable to me. It was soft, manageable and actually pretty lol. I was so grateful to this guy! Probably the best haircut I personally have ever had!

Now to see if I can do this everyday myself lol...

In this next year I am hoping that we will be purchasing a new car. I have had it with car problems that threaten and plague me. Every issue more potentially costly than the last. I feel  I am always limping along from one bad part to the next. Damned Chryslers, never again! The only good thing going for the two cars that we have is that they are paid for in full! No car payments. No debt...
This is a huge plus for a one income family.
I will however be searching to see what deals can be found on something newer.  The cars we have
are very old and were never meant to last forever lol. I don't know of any forever cars. One of our cars is 15 years old! In this past year I have really been appreciative to have a wonderful mechanic son in law. He has helped us keep these old cars limping down the road...Thank you Sam!

Such a sweet family! Son in law Sam, daughter Delcee, Korbin and Kadee!

Two very important services that keep people going... A good hairdresser and a great mechanic! Both are hard to find!
I know that my poor son in law cringes when we call him with car trouble. He has been urging us to get a new car for awhile now. My husband is stubborn. He doesn't want a car payment. I understand this but I also know that the day is coming that we are just going to need to bite the bullet and do it.

I would dearly love to make the extra money that this will cost us. I would feel very accomplished in being able to do so. This is a goal of mine for 2015.

Out With The Old And In With The New

New beginnings, new thoughts and goals. Out with the old and in with the new. What have you got going on in your head for 2015? I am just now sitting down to think about this. I have no idea... I spent all of 2014 focused on my music. I worked hard at it. Really gave it a good shot! Exausted myself with it. So maybe my focus ought to be somewhere else this year? I will drive myself crazy and be very unhappy if I continue on the same path... What a disappointment that was to realize.

I still have the same affirmation in mind though. "Whatever I touch/ create, there I will prosper monetarily. Whatever touches me, I will make better." I still firmly believe that something more than being a housewife is in me to do. I want to leave my mark upon this earth somewhere! Not to mention feeling a sense of accomplishment all the way to the bank. I still want to get paid!

I'm glad that I have been available for my family. I have been able to be of help to my grown kids, my husband and my almost 13 year old daughter, the youngest. I have picked up the slack for everyone and kept everbody going and moving forward. I watched grankids so that my daughter could do her internship at a law firm. We accomplished that. She has finished her AA degree with her certification in ParaLegal and has interned at the most prestigious personal injury specialists office in the valley.

Now, what am I going to do? Where is my second act? Where is my accomplishment? How and where do I make my mark? Talk about lost, I'm feeling it! I have been a domestic engineer for so long that I am clueless. How do I turn my life experience into something marketable? I have a varied skillset but nothing that I have tried to use for monetary gain. I would love to own and run my own
dessert shoppe. Right by a theater where people could come after the movie lol. Coffee, tea and desserts...I could see myself doing and enjoying that.

I could always see myself owning a bed and breakfast... Lots of work I'm sure. I have lots of energy, good health and an active mind. Surely I can create a niche for myself in society? The problems associated with making a career out of being a domestic engineer are many. The most obvious are financial. No retirement and no 401K! Nothing! The hit to your self esteem is even worse than that! The isolation is almost worse than either of those things previously mentioned! The daunting what do I do with and for myself now realizations at 52 years old...

I have a lot to figure out and think through. Maybe 2015 will be full of wonderful positive life
changing opportunities ! Maybe I will just ponder on this over my morning coffee...

Bake, Bake Bake That Rum Cake

 Gift platter contents...

Homemade bread was baked... Guess I was too caught up in it to take a pic of the bread...

Finished gift platter...

I have been in my kitchen baking for three days! This Christmas elfing is hard work! I baked eight
different batches of cookies.  Six loaves of homemade bread and my mother's rum cake. I had to assemble and wrap six gift platters and a huge box of cookies. Meanwhile, my husbands office was
having a potluck so I made a huge quanity of homemade mac and cheese. I'm also getting ready for
the Christmas get together tonight with all of my kids and G-kids. Whew...

I am sure that a lot of people are feeling the Christmas readiness crunch. I notice that people are really focused and seem to be on a mission everywhere you go. I have decided that I really am cut out for elfing. If I could create a job for myself it would be a goodwill ambassador position. Surely the
world could use a few more of these.

The bread that I baked was my Uncle Ed's Olive Oil Loaf recipe. My Uncle had been perfecting this recipe right up to the time he passesd away last year. He was working on a packaging and marketing strategy in which to market this semi homemade product.  I decided that I would try to incorporate his bread into my holiday gift platters. I thought the world of my Uncle, he lived with illness and health issues for years. You never thought of him as sick because he chose to live to the fullest inspite of his health. He was busy and had a great enterprising mind. Not to mention his love, support and encouragement that you really felt. He was funny beyond belief... Always had up cracking up! To say he is missed is an understatement. Today is his birthday so I have been thinking about him a lot.

I also made my Mom's Rum Cake for the family Christmas party. I haven't made this recipe since
my Mom passed away 12 years ago. My big kids remembered the cake and the flavor of the cake. It
was nice to have that fond memory of my Mom at my family Christmas get together!
