Outstanding broth for the Hot Pot Dinner that we got to experience last night courtesy of our friend Jimmy Tran of Pho Van.
Last night we were invited to attend a special traditional Vietnamese Dinner. Jimmy our friend had
invited us all to be his guests for the evening. The food was exceptional! He has really done a terrific job of replicating the flavors of Vietnamese cuisine! Pho Van is by far the best Vietnamese Restaurant
in Phoenix. We enjoy visiting Pho Van at least a few times a month.  Jimmy Tran is such a terrific host. We have become good friends through the years that we have been enjoying his establishment.

Last night we were also celebrating Hilton's Birthday. I made and took a homemade New York Style
Cheesecake to finish off  the evening.

Songwriting, It's A Process, I'm Loving It!

It's been a busy week! I have been working on two new songs. I finished one of them. It's a process and my learning curve, (memorization) of lyrics is what gets me lol. Anyway, here it is...
https://soundcloud.com/tyna-j-phipps/lost-in-the-game-written-by?utm_source=soundcloud&utm_campaign=share&utm_medium=email

Here are the lyrics...

What do I have to do to get through here? I want so much to be heard. I have so much that I want to say now- The words are falling into place. I'm reaching far beyond whats comfortable, I'm hoping to catch my big break.
I don't understand why it's so difficult, to find my niche and stake my place. It's harder than I thought to impress you- I find I'm lost, in the game!

Maybe, it's too late for me- I missed my chance, long ago. I was busy, with life you know? Please tell me how to play the game. Lately, I've come to see- Dreams must be realized in your head. I want this so much- I need some help and luck, to find my way through this maze! I want to play, but I'm, lost in the game.

Yet again, I enjoyed the process! I'm also working on this... I think it should have romantic lyrics...maybe even a little sappy... This song I have been calling Shiny New View. This probably will be retitled to match whatever lyrics I come up with...Shiny New View

Lost In The Game, Of Life!

This is what I found in the bathroom today. Zoe is preparing for a math test today and I'm guessing that this helps? Lol. Bless her heart! She is a math wiz. In the top 5 in her advanced math class according to S.A.T.'s . She did not inherit this from me... I have math phobia lol.  So proud of this gal! She really loves learning. I'm excited to see what she does with her life. For sure a mover and a shaker!
While she's been at school getting lost in math, I have been writing a new song called " Lost In The Game". I need to write some lyrics for it. Here is my work in progress.

I'm hoping that some lyrics come to me today for this. I have a few more originals in the works also. I  have challenged myself to write a whole CD worth of songs. Then, I suppose I could consider myself an artist.

My Mom, What A Mover and Shaker! Quite The Lady...

                              Leatrice June Joy

Leatrice June Joy Phipps

This was the obituary that I wrote for the paper and for her memorial.

You would think that after 12 years of her being gone, I would have excepted that she is gone. I haven't. She was the closest person to me on the planet and I miss her every day! She knew me better than anyone and she was my greatest supporter in everything that I ever tried to do!
Back in the day when I was giging around with my beloved huge, heavy beast of a keyboard, (top of the line) I should add... Mom tried to construct a dollie to help me haul the thing. We had an old stationwagon so my amp, (also freakin huge) and my keyboard fit into the wagon. The two of us
struggled to get it the few places I took it. Thankfully, my fellow band dudes took over hauling it around for me. Bless her heart I still recall her humor and support in everything she tried to make
happen for me.
I recall when disco was big we had a club in town that was an under 21 club which meant no drinking. I dearly loved to dance, so I was there nearly every weekend. Mom was thrilled about disco because in her hayday, she was a dance instructor in dance studios. She was an extremely good
dancer in her younger years. So when disco became popular she loved to watch people dance. She went with me to this club a few times. I had a blast with her! She just watched everyone dance lol,
she didn't dance. When line dancing became popular she watched as I tried to pick up the steps by watching a video. She promptly began dancing with the video as if it were so easy. She totally got it
and I was just amazed lol. She just picked up the steps and went with it! I was enchanted to see her
go.
I don't know why any of this would suprise me, she was something else before I was born. She wrote a whole musical by herself. She didn't read music so she would hum the songs to her friend, a pianist who would translate it into a song. Mom wrote the script and lyrics to all of the songs, designed the
set and had complete and total control over the whole musical. She performed the whole production in a theater in Roseville, CA. She was a mover and a shaker!
When I was in middle school, Dad lost his job. He had an idea for an invention so he and Mom worked on proving his idea, invention. They built a small plant on some property that they rented.
Mom would scoot up and down a hill on her butt by a pond that they built. She would retrieve wet
polystyrene bead board out of this pond and run density tests on it. I recall to this day how she fashioned a crucial clip out of a bobby pin that she took from her hair. They worked tirelessly for a few years on this project to prove his invention. They did this together every step of the way... To
bring to us all “Foamular”, know as Owens Corning Pink.

This is a pic of my Dad at one of the manufacturing plants of his invention. They had plants in Korea,
Kuwait, Germany and in Akron, Ohio.
My Mom's best role was that of supporting us. She made us feel as if we could accomplish anything we set our minds to. She inspired and helped my Dad create this industry. She was a terrific Grammy to my kids. My three oldest kids loved and learned so much from her! She was the smartest woman I ever knew. She was always learning. She was up to date on current events and had a vast wealth of knowledge on many different topics. She was interested in space. She was a heck of a seamstress. Didn't need a pattern, just could sew! She had a draftsman certification that she picked up in the 1950's. Lol. She could fix things, just give her a tool and she could fix it. What an amazing person, truly.
Sadly, she died when I was 7 mo. pregnant with Zoe. She had been making a pretty quilt for Zoe and
the day before she died she was telling me that she wanted to get up and finish it. Awwwww....I'm sad that my youngest never knew her. They would have enjoyed each other so much! To say that I miss
my Mom is an understatement. To this day, nothing can bring tears quicker to me than thoughts about Mom. I guess some losses you never really get over.
The following was my Mom's favorite song that I cover. She would ask me to play it for her from time to time...
She loved the haunting melody.
After she died, this song somehow became the song I identify with her. It allowed me to cry and cry and still have hope that she is around somehow, somewhere...

Reflection And Healing Of Spirit When Things Don't Make Sense...

This is my cover of Do You Dream Of Me written by Michael W. Smith.

Here is Michael W. Smith's original of Do You Dream Of Me.http://youtu.be/90qjIPH3jik

I love Michael W. Smith. If ever an angel lived on earth, I  believe that it is him. I always feel like I
have had a religious experience when I listen to his music. Here are more of my favorites that he wrote..

Lastly, my very favorite Michael W. Smith song. Live The Life! What a perfect message here. We are
all ambassadors for the world to see! Live a life you can be proud of! Not a perfect life. Be ambassadors of your faith and your Life Mission Statement.  No matter what religion you practice,  be genuine and kind! " For every act of love will set you free. "

*Food for thought on this day that we are touched greatly by the passing of our beloved Robin
Williams. He truly was a kind, "Goodwill Ambassador". He was an amazing man who gave us the best of himself.

*Thank you Michael W. Smith for all of your thought provoking and insightful music that inspires our souls to break and to mend. You, are an angel and a terrific ambassador of everything good in
humanity. You have given us songs that allow us to grieve and repair our hearts and souls.

If you have never listened to the music of Michael W. Smith, I urge you to. These are just a few that really speak to me.

You Know Like I Know, What Do I Know? I Forget...

I spent some time with my keyboard today. I enjoyed working on polishing my original a bit. I changed a few things and posted the updated version on my YouTube channel. Something More Than Nothing.
http://youtu.be/hGYeeZvIOtk

I also posted an old song that was an obscure hit in the late 70's. A song called You Know Like I Know written by The Ozark Mountain Daredevils. Have you heard it before? It's a great old song that I used to play solo when I was in a rock band as a kid! The good old Blackland Freight Days! I couldn't believe that I got paid to have so much fun. What a kick that was! For what it's worth, here it
is...You Know Like I Know, Ozark Mountain Daredevils... My latest cover video.

The Fun Things You Can Make With Zero Talent And, A Glue Gun...

I love the decor of Christmas. I like to create different village scenes and pretty tablescapes. I guess it's the whimsy of Christmas that so intrigues me. This is a pic of my newest candy village.

http://youtu.be/4RSh95IyQQQ

This is my cover of The Christmas Song written by Nat King Cole. Do you hear the " dog  choir " in the background? Lol, they are barkers!

I made these candle tablescape pieces yesterday. My husband is thinking about investing in some pretty laser lights. I can envision these on my Christmas party table with the laser light. It was a fun, mindless craft that took maybe an hour or so.
It was Zoe's first day back to school. She started 7th grade. I had a very productive and fun day. Today, I'm going to work on another song that I'm writing.

Fool's Overture, Which Fool, Me I Suppose...

Here is one of my all time favorite artists that I had the pleasure to see April of this year! Roger Hodgson. He was part of Supertramp years ago. This clip I took with my phone. I have long admired the genius that this guy is. He composed incredible music. I love and can cover a few of his noteable hits. Fool's Overture, Dreamer, Bonnie and Don't Leave Me Now are a few of his songs that I can
cover.

I understand that he probably is very protective of his music as many artists feel the
y must be. He is the only artist that I have encountered that takes this to an extreme. Maybe more are out there that I am unaware of. The very first cover video I ever posted on YouTube was Roger Hodgson's Fool's Overture. Much to my dismay, this video was taken down from my channel within 24 hours of my posting it. To add insult to injury, a copyright strike was issued against my account. I was really upset! My very first music video and I was already in trouble! My Facebook friends heard all about
this. This artist has social media dogs that troll YouTube and take down videos of anything and everything that has to do with his music. I read on the internet about people posting vacation videos that had a song of his in the background playing that were also taken down. Making his fans extremely furious!

Well, I was furious but decided that maybe if I asked his management company for permission, I
could repost my video. So I wrote a letter to him via his management company. I included a short clip of my video and made them aware that I am not profiting from his original. I explained that I am a 52 year old Gram/ housewife who posses no threat. I am not making any money from his music. I play
from my spare bedroom and my only interest in posting the video on my channel was mine. I explained that I'm lucky to get 50 views on any of my covers and that I'm a huge fan of Roger's
genius and it gives me pleasure to pay tribute in my own way. I really praised this man. I even sent them screen shots of other YouTube cover videos of the same song available for view on YouTube. I asked why mine had been refused. I never heard back from anyone. Here is a copy of the letter that I
wrote to his management company.

Dear Roger,
I recently asked your management company to allow me to cover "Fools Overture" on my YouTube

page. I enclosed a small clip of myself covering your song. In my enthusiasm after just having seen your concert, I posted my video along with a nice plug for and about you. Evergreen Social Media found my homemade video and took it down from my channel and issued to me a copyright strike against my YouTube account. I am a Mom of 4 and Grammy to 7 kids. I obviously am not trying to capitalize on your earnings or take away from your original in any way.
Please see clip ... I make no money covering your songs... I do this from my spare bedroom for my own entertainment. I'm lucky to have at most 50 views on some of my covers...I just admire your songs and your amazing musical genius. I'm personally hurt by the strike to my YouTube account. I don't think it is fair that by wanting to recreate something so inspiring to me, I should be punished. Also, I am having a problem understanding why my video was singled out considering I see several other cover videos of the same song available to view on YouTube...
If you won't allow my cover than why all of these?
Regardless, I would like to ask you to please have Evergreen Social Media remove the copyright strike against my account. I have learned my lesson and will never cover your music again. I apologize if I have caused any problems in doing so.
If nothing else this incident propelled me into a new way of thinking and I am writing songs of my own. I just uploaded my own original yesterday entitled " Something More Than Nothing ".
Please help me to regain my good standing with YouTube, I found copyright school to be a real eye opener...
Sincerely a big fan of yours,
Tyna J. Metzner

Thinking that I didn't cite it properly, I edited my video info and reposted it. Just as before within a day my video was taken down and another copyright strike was issued against my account. So I wrote to the management company again explaining all of this...this time asking if they can remove the copyright strikes from my YouTube account. I heard nothing back. I explained that I had learned
my lesson and that I found copyright school to be a real eyeopener. The consequence YouTube imposes on you for two copyright offenses. Three strikes your channel is gone.

Having been served two copyright strikes for the same artist and song I've decided it's pretty costly for me to be his fan. I like ya buddy but I don't love you that much. Thanks... Is this really how he wants his fans to feel? Not too impressed...Awwwwwww damn, I'm crushed!

Nostalgia Or Showing My Age, Take Your Pick...

Why is it that cars break down in twos when you have two... My car had issues a few days ago. My husband tried twice to replace the fan assembly unit only to find out it was a plug that goes to the fan that was broken. We finally took it to a shop. I just got it back this evening. Now, my husbands vehicle is over heating, we think it's the water pump. So looks like a few more days of being car less... Thats what happens when you have old, old cars! Still beats having huge car payments I guess.

Today I was thinking nostalgic thoughts. So in keeping with this  I'm posting my cover of a song from Chicago V called Alma Mater. It wasn't a billboard topper or even released as a hit. It was just a Terry Kath song that I have always loved. Another song that I could just play, Although I think I picked this song up in my 30's. I loved Terry Kath. His soulful voice and incredible talent as a guitarist made him  a gifted artist. A troubled gifted artist...Unfortunately he met his end of life in such a tragic and thoughtless way. Awww! His music lives on in my heart and on my YouTube and SoundCloud channel. Here are two songs that featured Terry Kath that I play.
