Making Noise Creating Cookies And Some Color
I’ve had a great deal of time for reflection the past week. I’m home with my 12 year old and all 3 pets. My husband is visiting his birth country, Vietnam. He and our 21 year old daughter, are touring the country. My husband has decided to stay a bit longer. In his heart of hearts, I know he’d just like to stay and retire there.
I have absolutely no desire to do that. For the past year, he has watched many many YouTube tourist videos about Vietnam. He’d stay up most night until 3-4 am watching videos. Asian food is just about all he wants to eat now. He’s been obsessed about making this trip. Part of me understands his desire to go back and visit. When he left at age 10, it was a war torn country! I’m sure that he couldn’t travel freely to see much of his homeland.
He speaks Vietnamese fluently! Out of all of his siblings, he has retained the most language and uses it frequently to converse with his aunts and uncles. His obsession with Vietnam has created a great divide between us. He’s overthrown the relationship and it’s become all about what he wants. He’s become extremely self absorbed! When and if he comes back, I hope he will have resolved his angst. Maybe it’s just a phase he’s going through? It’s been an unhappy eye opener for me. His discontent to be present at home has been so difficult to endure.
On a more positive note, I’m glad our daughter had the opportunity. She has had a chance to learn about her heritage! Also, she has had a chance to spend time with her Dad…
Anyway, I’ve had a chance to take a look at my life and from my perspective, I’ve given up too much of myself! I allowed this in an effort to keep the peace.
